I posted my quote as a pair of 3D-generated images to the Russell Hoban Facebook page today, then propagated them to my timeline for my hundred-odd friends. I pretty much live on Facebook, ever since I became paraplegic, and so can't leave pages out in the world any more, but never underestimate the power of a picture! The images here were created using Blender 3D open source software and the instructions in Pilgermann for creating Hidden Lion.
Exclusive! Poet and writer James Carter shares a wonderful interview with Russell Hoban from 1995, about films, musical and literary influences, The Mouse and His Child, Turtle Diary, his early career as an illustrator, creativity tips and more.
My first quote for 2015 is from Hoban’s 1975 The Sea-Thing Child. The second quote is from the novel Pilgermann, published in 1983, set during the Crusades, and said by the Jewish Pilgermann to his Muslim friend Bembel Rudzuk near the end of the story.
This year I left my quotations around Watford. The first in Watford library, in the reading section, hopefully to an interested audience. The second at Cha Cha Cha cafe in Cassiobury Park, Watford. It's a cold day for anybody to be in the park but the cafe is popular with people who have time to spare. I left it on a windowsill along with various leaflets left by other people and organisations. The cake at Cha Cha Cha is great, by the way!
