Fremder Gorenstein

Fremder's family name used to be Gorenstein before it became Gorn.
An underrated Russian Jewish writer named Friedrich Gorenstein wrote the screenplay for Solaris, which is in the same genre as Fremder.
Both named F Gorenstein - is this a coincidence and am I losing the plot?
