On a busy day, behind because I was snowbound without WiFi for the better part of three days, hereby using the virtual plane to leave my quote.

I found this superb quote on the first page of the first book I opened at random yesterday. It is from the essay "Pan Lives" in THE MOMENT UNDER THE MOMENT. I pinned the yellow paper to a bulletin board of the Upper St Clair library. Everyone who goes in and out will see it today.

On Tuesday, it was cold and windy and snowy, as it has so often been this winter, here in Chicago. In the morning I selected my quotes (two this year) and wrote them out on authentic, yellow A4 paper from Ryman's (purchased in London in September, specifically for this purpose) and headed out to work. As usual, I chose my quotes more or less at random, and as usual, I wasn't sure where they wanted to be left. At the end of my work day, I found the right spot for this one:

My 107 students in various classes are all reading Hoban this semester. I handed out these quotes to everyone, asking that they place them wherever they like here in San Diego. So I have no pictures but am quite sure the quotes were left in a wonderous assortment of places.
Both quotations were included on one sheet of paper with the following header:
Happy FEB. 4 Birthday, Russell Hoban!

I usually pick a short quotation for the SA4QE event, but this year I decided to go long. This one relates to Russ's native state, Pennsylvania, which happens to be mine, too. Although I did not get a picture, I did set the quotation free and let it be found. Because it is about water, I left it propped up in front of a display of fountains, all running, in a store named Trax.

A day late! (A day late and a dollar short, my 6th grade teacher would have said.) I realized in a panic yesterday evening that it was Russ's birthday and that I hadn't had, and wouldn't have, a chance to 4Qate. Despair! This morning I grabbed, at random (as is my custom) a book from the Hoban stack. The Lion of Jachin-Boaz and Boaz-Jachin. Good. I opened to a page that had a piece of paper (small, square, faded, yellow-ish) stuck in before it. Read til I came to the passage that wanted to be quoted.
