Soonchild longlisted for the 2012 Guardian Children's Fiction Prize

Russell Hoban's Soonchild has been longlisted for the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize.

The Guardian describes Soonchild as "a fantastical, timeless story full of mystery and the unexpected ... an awe-inspiring labour of love for [the narrator's] child and also a wonderful journey of discovery for himself."

"The submissions for the 2012 prize show that while paranormal romance of the Twilight kind still abounds, there are also a great many novels which reflect current preoccupations, as the eight titles selected so deftly illustrate," adds the Guardian.

Judges are children's writers Tony Bradman, Cressida Cowell and Kevin Crossley-Holland.

The prize will be awarded in November.
